Vodafone on two plants

The red advert is one shop. The street may be Openreach or CityFibre. The hub will not confess until you ask.

Vodafone would like you to think in red. Streets think in ducts. In a CityFibre town the same advert can be a different last mile from the village ten minutes away, where the only full fibre is Openreach. Both can be perfectly good. They are not interchangeable on a Friday night when you have ordered the wrong one and an engineer is booked for the plant you do not have.

Ask the plant by name

Before you order, the comparison should say Openreach or CityFibre (or cable, or an alt-net). If a Vodafone journey hides the name, that is a design choice. Make them say it in the confirmation.

The hub firmware and the app will not always tell you later. Keep the PDF.

Switching consequences

Retailer-to-retailer on the same plant is a cease and a new authentication. Plant-to-plant is a new drop, a new ONT, maybe a visit, maybe a week of two boxes.

People leave Vodafone for ‘anyone else’ and accidentally leave CityFibre for a slower Openreach FTTC because they chased a brand. Name the plant you want to keep.

Mobile gravity

The household with four Vodafone SIMs will be shown a line discount that makes the arithmetic look unique. Recalculate the SIMs at public prices. Sometimes the bundle still wins. Sometimes it is a golden handcuff on a mediocre drop.

A 5G backup SIM is a useful extra. It is not the same product as the FTTP you were comparing.

Red is a shop window. Purple or grey is a duct. Shop in the duct.

Vodafone is a retailer with a flexible wholesale shopping bag. Look in the bag. Then decide whether you like the shop.
