UK broadband switching guide

A calm checklist for changing home broadband in the UK, including contracts, TV and dependent services.

Start with the line you already have

Before you look at new prices, find your current contract end date, monthly price after any discount, and whether the service includes a landline, TV or alarm. A cheaper headline can still cost more in year one if you pay to leave early.

Then check what can actually be supplied

UK broadband is address-specific. Openreach full fibre, Virgin Media cable, and alt-nets such as Community Fibre or Hyperoptic do not serve every street. Enter a postcode, pick the address, and treat the result as a shortlist — the provider confirms the order.

Order through the provider you want

When you are ready, go to the provider (or an authorised partner). They manage the formal switch. Keep the order confirmation, the planned start date, and any equipment-return instructions from the old provider.
