TOOB is what wholesale fibre was supposed to look like: a shop that does not pretend to own the street, a price that makes incumbents twitch, a brand that feels like an app. That is the upside. The downside is people thinking TOOB is a network that can appear anywhere, or that a cheap intro is a personality that cannot rise. It is a CityFibre retailer. Put it in a line-up of CityFibre retailers. Then pick.
The line-up
Vodafone, Cuckoo, TalkTalk’s CF products, whoever else is on the spine this year, plus Openreach if live. TOOB is one column.
If they win the year and you can live with the support hours, take them. If they win the month-one poster and lose month 13, do not.
Not a network
They cannot supply a village without CityFibre. Do not delay Openreach for a TOOB advert aimed at a city they are in.
If you already ride the purple spine, they are a low-friction switch. That is the whole point of wholesale.
Aftercare is the rest of the cheap
Growth ISPs staff queues for growth. Ask current complaints data, not a launch-week Twitter mood.
Own-router, voice, static: get the three answers before you fall in love with the sticker.
