Student lets and term dates

Student Britain buys fibre like it buys a sofa: together, optimistically, in someone else’s name, for a house that ends in June. Retailers are perfectly happy to sell 24 months into that. The exit fee then becomes a group-chat wound. Term dates are a specification. A rolling tariff, a 12-month, or a landlord line with an SLA — those are products. A handshake that ‘we’ll sort it in summer’ is not.

Term equals tenancy

If the let is 51 weeks, do not buy 24 months unless the stayer is real and named. Rolling looks dear per month and cheap in June.

If the landlord includes broadband, price its quality and the repair path. ‘Included’ and ‘works’ are different.

The named person

One Touch Switch, debt, and the ombudsman all follow the customer. Housemates are invisible. Choose the most boringly reliable name, not the one who already had an account from hall.

When people leave, either cease or transfer properly. ‘Just send me the password’ is how lines get ceased from a beach.

June is a project

Put a calendar date in May: who stays, who pays June, who returns the hub, who tells the gaining occupants the ONT is on the wall.

Student fibre should be boring and dated. Anything 24 months long in a 9-month house is a social experiment with a collections team.
