The price-rise exit right

The price-rise exit is one of the few elegant things in the market: they change the bargain, you may leave the bargain, without paying for the months you will not use. It only works if you notice, if the rise was not already the deal, and if you move inside a window that is shorter than a half-term. People get the email, get angry, get busy, and pay an exit in May for a right that expired in April. Anger is not a method. A calendar is.

Which letter

‘We are raising you by the £2 your contract allowed’ — arithmetic. ‘We are raising you, and you may leave’ — the door. If the letter is fog, ask them which it is.

Old inflation-linked formulas were the scandal that built this door. Some doors remain even now that formulas are unfashionable, whenever they vary beyond the agreed pounds.

Use the window

Run the comparison the same day. Order inside the window. Do not wait for retention’s best and final on day 29 unless you like pressure.

If you stay, you stay on purpose, at the new pounds. That is allowed. It should not be accidental.

Fees that try it on

Kit, ‘admin’, a month of notice they invent. Kit return is real. Leftover term should not be. Put both sentences in the email.

If they still bill the leftover, that is a complaint, then an ombudsman. Do not pay ‘to be safe’ without asking.
