The Hull exception
In Hull the incumbent is not Openreach. National logos that assume a grey cabinet are telling a story from somewhere else.

Most UK broadband writing is a story about Openreach with footnotes. Hull is not a footnote. It is a city whose telephone company never became a chapter of the national wholesale machine in the same way. Lightstream is full fibre with a local name, and national comparison tables that ignore it are just wrong.
How we treat it
On OneTouchSwitch, Hull sample addresses list KCOM, not Openreach. Recommended ranking will not offer you a BT Openreach 150 as “available” there. If a national brand later sells on KCOM wholesale, it will appear as that network, not as a borrowed London cabinet.
A national market still has local physics. Hull is the reminder.
Why national tables go wrong here
A spreadsheet that assumes Openreach is the default incumbent will offer you Sky fibre in Hull and then look confused when the order dies. Address-level comparison is not a nice-to-have in East Yorkshire. It is the difference between a ranking and a lie. Our Hull sample addresses mark KCOM as the network. That is the discipline.
Switching still exists
Residential switching rules still apply. The gaining provider still has to match a real account. The set of retailers is different. If a national brand later sells on KCOM wholesale, it should appear as that network — not as a borrowed London cabinet. A Hull household deserves the same first-year cost discipline as a London one, with the networks that are actually in the street.
Advice from Leeds
