Picking a switch date
The calendar is part of the product. A cheap tariff with a hostile date is not cheap.

People pick switch dates the way they pick dentists: the first hole in the calendar that looks empty. The empty hole is often a Friday before a train, or a Tuesday they forgot was a filing day. One Touch Switch will not know. The engineer will not know. The cease will still fire. A date is a risk register. Treat it like one.
Be in
If a visit is needed, someone adult has to be there, with keys to the cupboard, for the whole window. ‘Sometime between 8 and 1’ means you do not book a meeting at 11.
If no visit is needed, still be near a laptop that morning. Authentication, Wi‑Fi names, the TV box, the relative who rings to say it is down — they cluster.
Do not fly the next morning
Failed visits, early ceases, a hub that wants a firmware hour: these are recoverable if you are in the country with a 4G router. They are a different story in a departure lounge.
A week of overlap before a holiday is a gift to your future self.
Cooling-off and slots
If you might change your mind, do not take the ‘start immediately’ box unless you understand you may pay for work done. If the slot is three weeks out, you still have thinking time — use it to read the contract, not to order a third ISP.
A slipped slot can slide you toward a cease you cannot unwind politely. Ask what happens to the cease if they move the van.

The first available slot is a sales prompt. It is not a risk assessment.
A good tariff on a bad morning is a bad product. Pick the morning as carefully as the megabits.
Questions
- Is there a ‘best’ weekday?
- A weekday you can be home, early in the window, not the last afternoon before a trip. Monday-Thursday mornings beat Friday 4pm.
- Can I change the date after I order?
- Often, if you have not been ceased. After the cease is in motion, changing dates is how gaps appear. Ask before you consent.
- Should I switch at the end of the month?
- Only if bills and notice line up. Do not let a rent day become a network day by superstition.
- What about school holidays?
- Engineers are busy; you may be away. A dated autumn slot can beat a chaotic August if the current line works.
- Night installs?
- Retailer changes without a visit can land overnight. Be ready to reboot a hub at 7am, not at 1am as a hobby.
